Frontend Engineer

Full-Time | Hybrid | San Francisco

We are seeking a technically talented and creative Frontend Engineer to join our dynamic, early-stage team full-time. You'll play a pivotal role in designing and implementing user interfaces that enable interaction with complex 3D assets through our state-of-the-art neural rendering techniques, within highly regulated industries.

At Schemata, we are transforming the $400B Virtual Training and Simulation market by integrating AI, neural rendering, and spatial computing into highly regulated industries. Our platform delivers complex 3D visualizations, interactive dashboards, and immersive user experiences from vast amounts of data—including 3D scans, dense technical documentation, and real-time user interactions.

This is a high-impact, cross-functional role. You will work end-to-end on everything from responsive web applications and component libraries to 3D rendering interfaces, performance optimization, and intuitive user experiences that empower both our internal teams and external customers.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and build responsive, user-friendly interfaces that are in line with Schemata's visual and technical specifications
  • Conduct user interviews and usability testing to gather actionable insights, analyze feedback to identify pain points and opportunities, and incorporate findings into iterative design and development cycles to continuously improve user satisfaction
  • Work closely with other members of the team and customers to create cohesive and engaging user experiences
  • Stay current with the latest front-end technologies and methodologies, applying them where necessary to enhance our neural rendering platform
  • Ensure efficient loading and optimal performance of all front-end elements, focusing on both desktop, mobile, and edge platforms
  • Follow and contribute to our coding standards, participating in code reviews to maintain a high-quality codebase
  • Build accessible web applications, considering all aspects of usability and compliance with web accessibility standards

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong fluency in TypeScript, React, Next.js, and CSS
  • A good eye for UI/UX, the ability to build performant and responsive web dashboards, and to interact with APIs
  • A strong understanding of the product cycle, and the ability to communicate with clients + incorporate user feedback
  • A strong design/website portfolio, which we can look at
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-changing startup environment, learn new technologies on the fly, and wear many hats
  • Experience building reusable components as part of a design system

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing applications in Figma or comparable software
  • Proficiency with web graphics frameworks such as Babylon.js, WebGL, and Three.js. Experience implementing smooth, performant animations using CSS, JavaScript, or animation libraries
  • Proficiency with React Native, Flutter, or any other mobile application framework
  • Proficiency with AWS, Docker, Flask, and PostgreSQL. Ability to monitor, diagnose, and improve web app performance. Knowledge of tools like Lighthouse, WebPageTest, or Core Web Vitals
  • Previous experience working in highly regulated industries (Defense, Mining, Energy, or other highly regulated industries)
